Proud to be part of

Outdoor learning

We believe that children learn best when engaged in a range of meaningful, hands-on learning experiences.

Our school grounds are a kaleidoscope of beauty, interest and inspiration, where pupils can relax, socialise, reflect and learn in total security.

We have a passion and determination to promote outdoor learning because we have seen its impact on children’s learning and behaviours. Activities beyond the classroom, across the whole curriculum, are embedded in routine weekly practice and enjoyed by and influence every child in the school.

Our curriculum has been developed to include bush-craft activities, adding another dimension to our children’s active outdoor learning experience, whilst developing their direct connection with and understanding of the natural environment.

Our outdoor learning curriculum

We have created our very own curriculum for outdoor learning. It is divided into different and distinct strands to ensure coverage and well-sequenced progression as the children move through the school from foundation stage to year 6.

OUTDOOR LEARNING STRANDS

Our school grounds

The children enjoy access to a wide variety of outdoor learning areas within our school grounds including the fire circle, Garden of Inspiration, pond and allotments.

The benefits of outdoor learning

Research carried out in November 2019 by UCL Institute of Education (commissioned by The Wildlife Trusts) found that, following outdoor activities, children not only experienced an overall increase in their well-being and health but also felt more connected to nature and had a greater level of enjoyment and motivation.
